Returning home from work every day after the long commute and stressful work environment can be tiring and exhaustive. All our body muscles become sore and painful from just sitting in a chair all day. Our lifestyle choices including our food choices and exercise regime(or lack of) can play a vital role in our energy levels. We all have experienced the relief we get when we get a shoulder massage or head massage from our partner. Imagine the same being done by trained professionals who know the exact pressure points and muscle entanglements. The relief obtained will be multiplied beyond our expectations if done by a proper Ayurveda practitioner who has learned about Abhyanga Ayurveda Massage. Abhyanga is perhaps the most sought-after Ayurvedic treatment Dubai. So if you have not tried it yet, here are 5 reasons to Choose Ayurveda Abhyanga Therapy for Better Health.

Ayurveda Abhyanga Therapy

Abhyanga massage therapy is part of Panchakarma, which is the 5 step detoxification procedure in Ayurveda to expel accumulated toxins. It can also be done as a standalone procedure under professional supervision. The predominant dosha in the patient is a deciding factor for selecting the intensity and focus of the procedure.
Abhyanga therapy is done using medicated oils on the entire body from the scalp to the toes.  The therapy nurtures the body, restores dosha equilibrium, and increases one's well-being and lifespan.

7 positions of Abhyanga

The Abhyanga massage process is completed in 7 positions as shown below. Each of these positions has its own importance and is followed in order by the Ayurveda masseuse. It starts and ends with sitting in the upright position. The 7 positions of Abhyanga therapy are :

  • Sitting straight up
  • The Supine position- lying on the back
  • Left lateral lying
  • The Prone position- lying on the stomach
  • Right lateral lying
  • The Supine position- lying on the back
  • Sitting straight up

Steps followed in Abhyanga Therapy

Abhyanga begins in a seated position, with oil being administered to the head, ears, feet, and eventually all body parts. Massage is emphasized on the head, neck, and shoulder in this position.

  • Face, chest, abdomen, hands, and legs are massaged while lying down.

  • The massage is centered on the right side of the body when in the left lateral posture.
  • Massage is emphasized on the back, spine, buttocks, hands, and legs while lying down.
  • The massage is centered on the left side of the body when in the right lateral posture.
  • The massage concludes with supine and seated postures (the first 2 steps are repeated).

During the massage, coordinated circular motions are performed on the joints, belly, and chest, as well as longitudinal strokes and downward movements on the hands and legs. The therapists' pressure applied at all times should be pleasant for the patient. Massage is performed for approximately 5-8 minutes in each position.
